Kick’n Cancer to the Curb Fundraiser Benefits Cancer Patients

First-time event offers raffle for Golf Car on Aug. 24

(Wake Forest, N.C., July 2, 2019) – A new charity event in Youngsville offers a chance to win a limited-edition golf car valued at nearly $15,000 along with other prizes while raising funds for the fight against cancer.

Kick’n Cancer to the Curb BBQ Fun Day & Raffle is planned for Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, 3 p.m., at Under the Sun Golf Cars, 225 Weathers St., Capital Blvd., in Youngsville, N.C. The event is free with golf car raffle tickets available now for a $50 donation to the charity. There will be a barbeque food truck, music and store specials.

The raffle drawing will take place at the event with the grand prize of a 2019 Club Car Onward Personal Transportation Vehicle Limited-Edition Storm Surge 48 volt electric golf car. Second prize is a Yeti Tundra cooler and third prize $250 cash. Only 800 tickets will be issued for donations to the charity. Tickets are available at https://go.rallyup.com/kickncancer.

The fundraiser is the newest cancer charity event organized by Roger Scott, director of Wake Forest RFL Fundraising, a nonprofit founded in 2013. He is a bladder cancer survivor, Wake Forest Rotarian and local commercial realtor.

“I’ve been touched by cancer in so many ways,” says Scott, owner of North Wake Commercial Realty in Wake Forest. “Giving back to my community and helping people suffering from cancer is my passion and I plan to raise funds each year until this stinkin’ dirty disease is eliminated.”

For 10 years, Scott volunteered with Northern Wake Relay For Life, serving as the event’s co-chair for two of those years.

In 2012, he started the Marga-RELAY-ville 5K fun run as his team fundraiser at the Relay For Life event. A year later, he formed his 501(c)3 nonprofit and the Jimmy Buffett-themed race became a stand-alone event in downtown Wake Forest. The event is held every April and has contributed more than $50,000 to cancer efforts since 2013.

When Scott wanted to expand his nonprofit’s 5K with another fundraiser, he met Nick DiMarino, managing partner of Under the Sun Golf Cars, who lost his young daughter to brain cancer. He donated the golf car for the raffle and became the event sponsor.

Sixty percent of the funds raised through the raffle will go to the American Cancer Society. The remaining 40 percent will be donated to the Wake Forest Rotary Club, which plans to set up a program to relieve medical debt incurred by Wake Forest area residents.
