Koinonia Foundation Grants Eight Local Nonprofits Nearly $22,000

(Wake Forest, N.C., June 12, 2019) – The Koinonia Foundation of Wake Forest presented a total of $21,500 to eight local nonprofits during the organization’s June Board meeting at the Wake Forest Historical Museum.

The money will help the eight local charitable organizations provide financial support and address human needs in the greater Wake Forest area.

The Koinonia Foundation is an interdenominational, nonprofit providing financial support to organizations that address human needs not otherwise adequately funded and to individuals demonstrating a critical need. Since 1990, it has expanded from serving neighbors in crisis in Wake Forest to the communities of Rolesville and Youngsville.

“The Koinonia Foundation exists to help our neighbors in crisis and these nonprofit recipients provide tangible resources to people who are hungry, hurting or struggling,” said Koinonia Foundation Grants Coordinator and Board Member Jennifer Gaston. “It brings us great joy to support these local nonprofits with grants, so they can help the underserved in our community.”

These nonprofit organizations are The Koinonia Foundation 2019 grant recipients:

  • North East Wake Back Pack Buddies (www.newbackpackbuddies.org) provides bags of food to hungry children in local schools.
  • Called to Peace Ministries (www.calledtopeace.org) is a non-denominational nonprofit dedicated to offering hope and healing to victims of domestic violence, emotionally destructive relationships and sexual assault.
  • Meals on Wheels Wake County (www.wakemow.org) serves hot meals to homebound individuals, disabled senior adults and persons with disabilities living in Wake County.
  • Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry (www.triareaministry.com) provides food to eligible people living in Wake Forest, Rolesville, Youngsville and surrounding areas of Wake County.
  • ChurchNet Foundation (www.churchnetfoundation.net) provides emergency financial assistance to people with overdue utility bills and those in need of prescription medication.
  • Safe Space (www.ncsafespace.org) is a shelter in Louisburg, North Carolina, dedicated to reducing relationship violence in Franklin County and nearby communities.
  • Wake Forest Presbyterian Church (www.wakeforestpres.org) supports the Back Pack Buddies program at schools located in the Wakefield community.
  • Wake Forest Optimist Club (www.facebook.com/wakeforestoptimistclub) conducts service projects in the Wake Forest community aimed at helping young people. They will purchase items to make Comfort Kits for children who have been removed from their homes and are under care by Northern Wake Regional Center Child Protective Services.

The Koinonia Foundation of Wake Forest raises money annually during its fall pumpkin sale and the Koinonia Cares Charity Auction every March. The 100-percent volunteer Board of Directors grants funding to local nonprofits and fulfills personal benevolence requests as part of its mission to care for neighbors in need within the greater Wake Forest community.
