Wake County School Board Member Speaks at Chamber Government Affairs Meeting

Thank you to Heather Scott, Wake County School Board Member for District 1 (which includes Wake Forest schools) for speaking with the Government Affairs Committee on April 3rd.  Since her election, Heather has visited almost all of the 28 schools in District 1 to meet principals and educators to understand the unique needs in each school.  Heather shared her experience, as a newly elected Board Member, reviewing the Superintendent’s recommended budget.  Heather said during the budget presentation, she became a bit overwhelmed because she recognizes the budget is not just numbers on a page.  It represents real people and impacts their lives.  The budget impacts 160,000 students and well over 10,000 teachers and their families.  Heather also shared details about how much of the school system’s budget is driven by federal and state requirements.  The group asked Heather questions about school bonds, student assignments, charter schools and teacher pay.    For more information about Heather and the superintendents recommended 2019-2020 budget visit www.wcpss.net
